Eating A Healthy Breakfast On The Go »

We all have heard it said before that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but despite this assertion, many of us are simply “too busy” to make sure we get a healthy breakfast in us. But if you truly want to be as healthy as possible, it will be important that you make sure to eat something at the start of the day – and even if you are “too busy,” there are a lot of options for eating a healthy breakfast on the go.

If you are planning to start eating breakfast on the go, you will need food that you can take with you in the car or on the subway – but this does not just mean you have to bring a bagel or a muffin along! Fruit is a great way to get your body going in the morning, as it is healthy for you and will start you off with the energy that is necessary for moving forward in your day. You can also take the time at night to prepare food that will be both healthy and easy to bring with you, such as breakfast sandwiches (using regular toast, or using something like a bagel or an english muffin) or hard-boiled eggs.

A lot of people also have leftovers from their dinners, but they do not think of these as “breakfast foods,” and so they leave these leftovers in the refrigerator and end up skipping breakfast altogether – but dinner leftovers are often a great thing to bring with you for breakfast! Load some of your dinner into a tupperware after you finish eating, and the next morning you will have something that is easy to bring with you and either heat up when you get to work or eat cold on your way in!

You can already distinguish between “healthy” foods and “unhealthy” foods without any help; now, you just need to make sure you are making the effort to bring some of these “healthy” foods with you so you can start your day off the right way!

Boosting Your Brain »

Your brain is one of the most valuable assets you have, but what many people do not realize is that their brain can become sharper with practice and work or can become more flaccid if they fail to give it the attention it needs. Perhaps you are recognizing that you have been neglecting your mind as of late, but even though it will take a little while for your brain to start becoming as sharp as it once was, you can use these tips and tricks to get your brain to where you want it to be.

Memory games: There are all sorts of different memory games that you can buy in stores or even use for free online; many of these games are fun, and they also cause your brain to stretch itself in new ways that will boost your regular trains of thought and will also improve your memory in other areas.

Puzzles: A couple things that are great for your brain are such puzzles as Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles; you can also exercise your brain (and – in time – sharpen it!) by doing word search puzzles and crossword puzzles.

Read: You might hear people brag about the fact that they “only read” non-fiction books or self-help books – but really, it hardly matters what you read so much as it matters that you read, as you will work out your brain and will broaden your capacity for thought no matter what you are reading. And in any case, it is much better to entertain yourself by reading books – even if they are commercial fiction books – than to flip on the television for your entertainment!

Creative activity: Creative activity such as painting, drawing, playing an instrument, or writing are all great ways to exercise your brain, and not only will you get the satisfaction of having creative output you can be proud of, but also, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of a brain that has been worked out.

As you work hard to always exercise and stretch your mind, you will notice that your capacity for memory and thought are much greater (and much sharper!) than they have ever been before.

Foods To Avoid If You Want A Flat Belly »

Lots of people deal with the fact that they want to lose weight – specifically in their stomach region – but they have no clue exactly what they need to do in order to achieve this, and regardless of how many miles they run or how many crunches they force themselves to do, they cannot seem to get rid of those love handles or that belly pouch; of course, one of the big reasons for this is that these people are simply going about things the wrong way – and one of the best ways to turn this around is to know the right foods to eat!

If losing belly fat is something you are hoping to do, you will want to focus less on how much “fat” you are putting into your body and more on how many carbohydrates you are putting into your body; because of the manner in which your body translates carbohydrates into sugar, your body ends up being unable to burn your stored-up fat for energy when you ingest too many carbs, and this leaves that belly fat looking exactly as it did before you took that three mile run!

Of course, not only will you want to avoid carbs (basically, breads, grains, and starches) because of the manner in which these are turned into sugar, but you will also want to avoid sugar itself; some people find this to be a difficult move to make, but once you start seeing your abs again, it will all be worth it!

And as you start cutting back on your intake of carbs and sugars, you should be aware of the fact that a lot of fruits are full of both; of course, fruits are good for you, but if you want to start shedding that belly fat, you will want to limit the fruits you are eating – and you will want to lean toward fruits such as berries and apples, and away from fruits such as bananas and melons.

As you apply these principles to your daily eating habits, you will find that it starts to become easier and easier – especially as you begin to see that belly fat disappear and that stomach start looking flat again.

Answering The Question Of Whether You Should Self-Publish Your Book »

If you have ever thought of writing a book, you may have also heard people lament “the current state of the publishing industry,” talking about how difficult it is these days to get published, and how difficult it is for those authors who have gotten published to also experience good sales numbers – and all these laments might have led you to ask the question of whether or not you would be better off self-publishing your book. Without question, this is a complicated issue, but while there is no blanket statement that will answer this question for everyone at once, there are a few specifics that can help you answer this question for yourself, depending on what it is that you are interested in writing.

The first thing to be aware of is that a traditionally published book has a much greater chance of reaching a broad audience, but if you are a businessman or businesswoman, wanting to write a book for other businessmen and businesswomen, you will be in great shape to self-publish if you (or your business) has a broad reach, and is well-known.

On the other hand, you will put yourself at quite a disadvantage if you are a nonfiction writer who does not have a broad network of business partners, clients, and customers and are wanting to self-publish a book, as you will have a hard time getting anyone to see you as an “expert,” which will hamper your ability to spread the word of the book.

And the answer to this question is somewhat up in the air for fiction writers thinking about self-publishing; if you know other writers who can help you promote the book, you have a shot at finding great success through self-publication – but at the same time, you also risk no one knowing about the book, and the whole experiment ending in failure!

In the long run, going the traditional publishing route is often your best bet - but if you feel you can get the word out there about a self-published book, or if you need to get a book of yours to print more quickly than you could through a traditional publisher, the risk of self-publishing can sometimes give you great rewards!

Is Alcohol Beneficial Or Not? »

Whether or not alcohol consumption is healthy has been one of the biggest health questions to come about in the last ten years or so (with the question arising, in large part, because many people would love to think that having a few drinks each day is a major part of healthy living!), but while some studies have indeed shown that alcohol consumption can have positive effects on health, there are a number of caveats to keep in mind.

Firstly, you need to realize that moderation is the key when it comes to alcohol consumption, as exceeding the bounds of moderation can transfer the positive effects of alcohol into negative effects; of course, “moderation” is a general term, but the good news is that “moderation” in alcohol consumption actually has a solid set of guidelines! The Mayo Clinic determines “moderation” – in terms of alcohol consumption – to be one drink per day for females and two drinks per day for males, with “a drink” being any one of the following: one beer (12 ounces), one glass of wine (5 ounces), or one serving of liquor (80 proof; 1 and a half ounces).

Of course, even with these guidelines of drinking “only in moderation,” the benefits of alcohol consumption are still in question, as there are still as many studies that explore the negative effects of alcohol consumption as there are studies that explore the positive effects – with the general idea derived from the two sides being, essentially, that there are positive effects of alcohol consumption among older adults (especially those with high cholesterol or an ancestral history of heart disease), and that there are generally negative effects of alcohol consumption among younger adults.

In summary, the best way to approach alcohol consumption is in moderation – and if you already drink alcohol in moderation, you will probably be quite safe to continue doing what you are doing; if, on the other hand, you do not currently consume alcohol on a regular basis, you would be much better off continuing to leave it alone, as the potential health benefits do not outweigh the risks of drinking to excess!
